  • Professor Egley was one of the first sparring partners I worked with when I started Jiu Jitsu and he is a class act! With his size and skill level he could've murdered me! However, he was such gentle giant and helped me progress in to a decent grappler. For anyone new looking to try Jiu Jitsu, I highly recommend Mike's school. You wont be disappointed.

Extremely nice gym! Spacious, well lit, clean, high ceilings, changing rooms and plenty of gym bag space while you roll. Not to mention Right off the interstate and easy to find. There are people here from nearly a dozen other gyms that share in goals, disciplines, smiles and laughter. I've never known a more accepting community than this. The instructors are among the best in the state!
Michael is a thesaurus of techniques and a braniac for tactics. Not to mentions he gives great hugs. That alone is worth the price of admission.

I recently joined up at Egley Train Boise and I couldn’t be happier with it here! Coach Mike is very knowledgeable of Jiu-Jitsu and instructs technique in a way that benefits the most experienced practitioner to the beginner as well! The rest of the team is very welcoming and will push you to want to learn and roll more! I’ve had some of my best rolls here in a short time I’ve been a part of the team. There’s lots of classes that can fit your schedule! Get in here and train, you definitely will love it here!

The owners are very kind and personable. Something I love is it is family run.. all the dedication and time Mike and Emily put into this gym is special.
The team is welcoming and patient with new people. My son loves the kid’s class ... it’s a great place to start because all the kids are newer so they are all learning at the same pace!! 😊

High competition for higher belts and great for beginner white belts.

Another bonus- They also have open mat on both Saturday and Sunday’s!!

I dropped by while visiting in town and had an awesome experience. I highly recommend checking Egley Train out for anyone wanting to try out Jiu Jitsu or if you’re looking for a gym in the area. Michael’s full of knowledge and the environment is very friendly. From great explanations on the fundamentals to helping diagnose some more technical moves, Michael and team were great.

I found the members of the gym to be very willing to help and share their knowledge as well. This is a solid place to pick up the game or get great sessions and rolls in with good competition. I’ll definitely be back in the future!

Mike Egley is an amazing coach---a super technical practitioner, a gifted instructor, and a caring human being.

Boise has a thriving jiu-jitsu community, but Egley Train is incomparable even in such strong market. Egley trained at Carlos Gracie and then got his black belt from Keenan Cornelius. He brings a wealth of experience and technical prowess in both gi and no gi training. He's incredibly well versed in the fundamentals but also has a gift for understanding and incorporating advanced and emerging techniques.

The gym is clean, safe, and welcoming. The location is easy to access right off the freeway interchange at Cole Rd. The instruction is precise, practical, and digestible. The open mat rolling has got a great tempo--perfectly balanced with technique, energy, and safety. And the team has the right cultural balance of respect and care without being overly stuffy or stringently hyper-traditional.

All levels will benefit from training here, whether your a hobbyist or a competitor----a novice or advanced. You'll be welcome and you'll have a home.

Do yourself a favor and check out this incredible new gym.

FAQ

If possible, please try to arrive 15 minutes before class so that you can meet the staff and instructor, sign a waiver, and become familiar with our academy!

For footwear, flip-flops/ sandals is a good idea.  No shoes are permitted on the mats.  That’s why walking up to the mats with flip-flops is a great idea for a seamless transition.

If you have a gi of your own, bring it!  If not, come in regular gym workout clothes (shorts and a t-shirt).  We have rental gis available as well as gis for purchase.

For a no-gi class, a rashguard and shorts should be worn.

And of course, a water bottle is highly recommended!

The word “jiu jitsu” derives from the Japanese “Jū” meaning “gentle” and “Jutsu” meaning “art”; literally, jiu jitsu is the “gentle art”.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a ground-based martial art, using the principles of leverage, angles, technique, and timing, as well as knowledge of the human anatomy, in order to achieve a controlled submission of one’s oppressor.  Unlike other martial arts that focus on strikes and kicks, jiu jitsu focuses on close-contact grappling holds and techniques, and the application of chokes and joint manipulations to control the fight.

A gi is a uniform worn during jiu-jitsu (as well as various other martial arts, including judo, karate, and sambo) training. The word “gi” comes from the Japanese term, “Keikogi.”

Keiko means practice; gi means dress or clothes. A gi consists of 3 pieces; the gi jacket, pants, and belt.

Different parts of a gi are strategically utilized for grips, chokes, guards, and other techniques during training. Typically, it is heavily stitched and usually made of cotton to withstand the rigors of daily practice.

The Gi is practical for replicating thick winter clothing (think winter jackets and pants), as we have seasonal weather in Boise!

Most definitely! In addition to being immensely FUN, training will increase your muscle tone, bodily coordination, cardiovascular capacity, muscular endurance, balance, and will (inevitably) reduce overall body fat. All that being said, please make sure you hydrate yourself properly before and after training.

Our Jui Jitsu is for everyone!  We are Team People.  Whether you’re a beginner or world-class black belt, young or old, overweight or in shape our Jui Jitsu program is for you!

If you’re judgemental, unkind to others, and not serious about positive change, however, our Jui Jitsu program is NOT for you.
